The Quality of Teaching
By: Benjamin Cavazos
In today's standards, the quality of teaching has been controversial. If it’s either from the pay of the teachers. Or notably, how they perform.
The teachers in learning facilities have been noticeably slowing down. Whether it’s from the lack of motivation with how little the teachers get paid, Or the behavior of the students. Teachers have been slacking on the job.
There have been numerous cases where students complain about the teachers and how they have underperformed.
One of the major issues with this, is how the admins do not react to any of this backlash. And if they do not have any backlash, the underperforming teachers continue to thrive under the job they are not qualified for.
The horrible thought is that these students are our future, our new generation. And the way the teachers neglect that way of teaching can be damaging to our kids.
A way of fixing this is not such a mind blowing fix, however they need to be done. One of the propositions are administrators being assigned to a classroom a week, instead of being assigned to a single hallway.
The second suggestion I can give to the administrators is secretly hiring students within the classes to examine the class and to take notes. So in this way the teacher does not know that an administrator has entered the classroom.
The reason behind the second suggestion is because the moment an admin enters the room, the teacher immediately changes mood and activities. And with that being said, the teacher's true intentions would be shadowed by a mask.
Another logical way to solve this is to increase training with the teachers, in this way the teachers can have a certain mindset on how they perform. Over time it is statistically proven that the requirement to become a teacher has decreased over time. Now all a person needs in order to become a teacher is just a simple test.
We should invoke a new condition on new teachers in training to have certain qualities for certain subjects. Most of the time, the teachers have no clue what they are doing. This can be seen when a teacher is in visible stress when asked for assistance.
To recap, our future generation is in grave danger without the changes it needs. One of the major issues are the teachers being incompetent about how well they teach. We see this on a day to day basis, the people responsible for this recurring issue are the SCUCISD council and training.
And we as a whole district, demand for teachers to do a better job at teaching. It is unfair to the students who go to school to learn, instead of being taught. They don’t get taught anything.

The Fall of Education
School is becoming a distraction
Education in America is failing, and it is supporting cheating and distraction from students.
Jonah Hershberger is relatively new to Texas. Although he has only been here for two years, He has noticed some changes in the education system.
“I like paper and pencil better, but online can help me look for resources on the web,” Hershberger said.
From the days he spent in Clemens, he didn’t just find the downfall of education, but the downfall of the whole schooling system.
Cesar Salazar has been teaching at Samuel Clemens for over five years. He has witnessed most of the evolution that has occurred in school.
“I believe that it is easier to connect with assignments or maybe important information. Right now, everyone is available to connect to social media and online,” Salazar said.
According to edsys.in, seventy five percent of people who graduate from high school are people who are enrolled into a face to face program opposed to the 60 percent who flunk out with online schooling.
“I have noticed changes personally because I was in Florida, but there is stuff online I have yet to properly learn,'' Hershberger said.
Although traditional schools can be distracting, it should also be noted that online schools yield worse student performance.

Student Council: The Voice Of The Student Body
The Mediator Between Admin & Student
Student council and its president have the responsibility of representing the student body in important decisions.
For years, student council has been an important part of Samuel Clemens High School. Council members often go to places like the library on Wednesdays to discuss important things related to the school. In these meetings, students discuss ideas that can help the school out in various ways. One of the most important role models in the group is the Council’s sponsor, Wendi Potts.
“When we see things that aren’t working correctly, or the way we want them to work, or we see a need, then I think that puts us in a unique position to take that up the chain of command,” Wendi Potts, the sponsor of the student council, said.
Potts has been involved with the student council program ever since she was in school. She was a part of the program as a child, and she has met some of her closest friends through the group. Potts feels that her role in the program involves introducing potential ideas to the group, and being a facilitator for the group.
“It’s our job for us to lead and make sure people follow what we do because we are leaders.”, Jayla Wallis, a student council member, said.
Student council often discusses topics such as teacher appreciation, school spirit, and D.A.S.H, Clemen’s anti-drug program. The council also discusses other things such as theme weeks and school safety.
“The program’s effect on the school has been positive,” Vance Fredrick (10) said. “This school has treated me very well.”
Without the council, this school would not be as enjoyable for students. There would likely be no homecoming, dress up days, or activities that do not relate to academics. These events are what makes many students excited to go to school.
