Students of Clemens take a stand on their school safety On April 20th, students of Clemens walked out of their second period to protest the current gun laws. Their goal was to urge congress to make it more difficult for people to get assault rifles. “We hope to get the national legislature to notice school safety,” Said Caelie Morris (12). Her and many of the students in I.B. planned this event in order to speak out on the injustice towards the safety of students. According to Nyja Garner (12), “I don’t want to get shot up. To many times there have been threats to this school. School should be a safe haven.” Later during the event she gave a speech speaking out on the anxiety many student now feel going to school. “My point is to show as a student that I care about what the government does.” Said Preston Kiser (12) who was a fellow participant in the walk out.
